Step Parenting Made Easy | Baby care | Health and Fitness | Beauty

Step Parenting is a topic that so many people have serious issues dealing with. Every parent has a dream to have a happy family and raise their children in the best atmosphere ever where there is peace, joy and love in the family. But sometimes it doesn?t always happen like that. The problem starts when each parent doesn?t seem to agree with each other?s idea anymore and before you know it they are already breaking up and calling it a quit. Most of the times children get to see these disagreements between their parents which are a lot already traumatic for them. So getting to adjust with someone who is not their biological parent might be difficult, not to even talk of the fact that they were not really comfortable with their own biological parent in the first place. When parents break up and get married to another partner that is when step parenting begins.

If you are a step parent and you are confused and do not know what to do to get your step kid(s) to love you here are some tips that can move your seemingly step parenting nightmare into a beautiful morning.

Tips for Step Parents

Being a step parent is not an easy task at all; I can say that because I have been a victim. I was a little boy when my mama left my dad. The reason for her leaving was because my elder sister got pregnant and my dad said he can?t have her stay with him any longer and that she needs to relocate and go stay with my grandmamma. This idea was just too crazy for my mama to agree with, but after series of talking she finally agreed to have relocated. On the day that my sister was to leave my mama said she is going to take her to my grandma herself. She took her to my grandma with previous agreement but when she got there and stayed for about two weeks she decided on her own that she is not coming back again to my dad. That decision was already traumatic for me and my siblings. One year later my dad got married to other women with the reason which we had never seen before.

At that point all I did was to fight and complain about everything she did to my dad, she was not friendly either. She yells at me and makes different attempt to hit me which I did not like. I might not be able to go into all the detail of the story. But the whole idea behind this story is that her behavior was already wrong towards me so I fought her with everything I had. She was able to last for 5 years after which she had to leave because my dad started having problems with her too.

As a step parent you need to understand that the mother or father of the child you are about to leave with might like you at the first instance but your attitude and actions towards them can change everything. Try as much as possible not to take things too personal because they are only trying to protect their home which is normal for every ones.

Step parenting would be easier for you if you start to love your step children irrespective of what they do to you. ?Life is an echo it gives back what you give,? the corresponding action to love is love. With time and a consistent showing of love, your step child (ren) will learn to love and respect you.

Your step children have a high possibility of making your marriage work or not work. So, take your time, observe them, be patient, respect their privacy and above all love them. If you can do this things getting a blissful marriage should not be a nightmare.

Obama snubs Pakistan head over supply routes

CHICAGO (AP) ? In an unmistakable snub, President Barack Obama left Pakistan off a list of nations he thanked Monday for help getting war supplies into Afghanistan.

The omission speaks to the prolonged slump in U.S. relations with Pakistan that clouded a NATO summit where nations were eyeing the exits in Afghanistan.

Tensions that Obama readily acknowledged raise questions about whether Pakistan will help or hurt the goal of a stable Afghanistan. Continued mistrust between the United States and Pakistan also threaten cooperation to eliminate al-Qaida sanctuaries and could undermine U.S. confidence in the security of Pakistan's growing nuclear arsenal.

"We need to work through some of the tensions that have inevitably arisen after 10 years of our military presence in that region," Obama said later. "I don't want to paper over real challenges there."

Pakistan is not a NATO member but was invited to the summit Sunday and Monday because of its influence in next-door Afghanistan and its role until last year as the major supply route to landlocked NATO forces there. Pakistan closed those routes after a U.S. attack on the Pakistani side of the border killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in November.

The last-minute invitation from NATO to join the Chicago talks was a sign of hope that the rift had healed.

But it hasn't. And Obama's dealings with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari made that clear on Monday.

Zardari came to Obama's home town expecting a separate meeting with the U.S. leader like the one accorded to Afghan President Hamid Karzai. But without a final deal to reopen the supply lines, no such meeting was to occur.

Obama, along with Karzai, did speak briefly with Zardari on the sidelines of a large group meeting Monday. Karzai dismissed the encounter in an interview with CNN as a "three-way photograph taking...just a photo opportunity."

That was after Zardari had to sit by as Obama opened Monday's session with public thanks only to the nations north of Afghanistan who allowed expanded supply shipments to transit their territory to compensate for the closed Pakistani border gates.

"I want to welcome the presence of President Karzai, as well as officials from central Asia and Russia ? nations that have an important perspective and that continue to provide critical transit for ISAF supplies," Obama said, referring to the International Security Assistance Force that is fighting the war.

Pakistani officials played down the snub.

"The supply route on Pakistan's side has been suspended for the last six months," Zardari's spokesman Farhatullah Babar told reporters. "There was really no expectation from our side that the U.S. president would appreciate and admire the suspension of the NATO supply lines."

The border crossing dispute is stuck over how much the U.S. will pay Pakistan to allow trucks to transit its territory. Before the airstrike, the U.S. paid about $250 per truck. Now, two U.S. officials said, Pakistan wants $5,000 a truck and an apology for the deaths in the airstrike. The Obama administration has said it was willing to pay as much as $500 per vehicle and has expressed condolences and regret, but no apology. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the negotiations were being conducted in private.

The prospects for reaching a deal were unclear, even as the stakes grow larger.

Babar said the government had asked negotiators to expedite an agreement, but that "no timeline can be given."

Obama told reporters at the close of the summit that he knew beforehand that there would be no deal on the supply routes now.

"President Zardari shared with me his belief that these issues can get worked through," Obama said. "We're actually making diligent progress on it."

Zardari also met with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday and made a beeline across a meeting hall to grasp her hand again on Monday morning. The State Department said Clinton and Zardari "discussed the importance of reopening the NATO supply lines," and of cooperating to fight terrorist threats.

The U.S. and Pakistan have a history of troubled relations that started well before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The road has grown only rockier since then. Despite giving Pakistan billions of dollars in aid over the past decade, anti-Americanism is widespread in Pakistan. And after years of sometimes meaningful cooperation in hunting down al-Qaida figures, Pakistan is still seen by many U.S. officials as double-dealing and unreliable.

The transit route issue was a distraction and an embarrassment for the United States at the summit, and Obama's cool arm's length treatment of Zardari made it look even worse for the Pakistani president.

"Pakistan has to be part of the solution in Afghanistan, and it is in our national interests that to see a Pakistan that is democratic, that is prosperous and that is stable," Obama said.

The quarrel over supply routes is intertwined with several other disputes, including Pakistan's opposition to U.S. drone strikes against terrorist targets inside its borders.

In addition to closing the border crossings in response to the November attack, Pakistan ordered the U.S. to vacate Shamsi air base, which the U.S. was using to launch drone strikes at al-Qaida and Taliban militants.

The top allied commander in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John Allen, has tried to cast the supply route problem in the best possible light, while acknowledging that he'd like to see the border crossings reopened as soon as possible. Allen said Sunday that by some measure, war stocks are higher now than when the crossings were closed.

That is thanks to an increased ? and much more costly ? use of alternative routes, including a network of northern routes that connect Baltic and Caspian Sea ports with Afghanistan through Russia and Central Asia and the Caucasus. And they combine sea, rail and truck transport and are more costly than crossing Pakistan by land.

U.S. officials have offered a range of estimates on how much the closing of the Pakistani land routes have added to the overall supply costs, but it apparently is at least two or three times more expensive to move supplies by air and via the northern route.

To underline the value of those alternative supply routes from the north, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta met Monday in Chicago with his counterparts from the central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. He expressed his "deep appreciation for their support" of the northern supply route, Pentagon press secretary George Little said.

At least as troublesome as being forced to use alternative supply routes into Afghanistan is the issue of how to get war materiel out of the country as Allen begins the withdrawal of thousands of U.S. troops this summer. That's because the withdrawal includes shipment of vehicles and other equipment that would be costly and time consuming to remove by air.

The NATO alliance needs Pakistan's cooperation to ensure Afghanistan's long-term stability and security, NATO's top officer told reporters. That was a mild way of saying that Pakistan can play the spoiler at will and holds cards the fighting force does not. Pakistan shares history, culture and language with Afghanistan's restive southern swath, and maintains support for Taliban-led insurgents who cross the border to kill U.S. and NATO forces.

Me, I prefer playing console games. I have played PC games before, but I find I can't get into it as much as I can if I'm playing the GameCube, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, etc.

The only type of PC games I play are games like the Movies, Cities XL, and any Tycoon game.

Korean Textbooks to Stop Teaching Evolution | Gossipian

Congratulations Texas! You?re not the exclusive domain of Creationist idiocy any more! Seven science textbook publishers in South Korea have agreed to remove references to evolution after a campaign by Christian groups.

According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), of the seven science textbook publishers, three of them have decided to concede to the petition that called ?the depiction of the evolution of horse is the product of imagination?. Chonjae Education publishing house decided to replace the ?evolution of horse? with the ?evolution of whale? and the rest decided to remove the reference altogether.

The evolution of the horse is widely considered one of the best examples for demonstrating how evolution works, so naturally it shouldn?t be taught to children, lest they expand their minds and not blindly follow religious doctrine.

Reality has a well-known liberal bias, and gone are the days when the right, particularly the religious right, sought to challenge this with facts or evidence. The new tactic is to cast everything as a ?debate? and so reduce the confidence people have in certain scientific facts by presenting them as equal to say, intelligent design. This cheapening of scientific debate has been helped in part by a media culture obsessed with balance, where homoeopathy is presented as a legitimate rival to real medicine, where believers in magic (because that?s all intelligent design is, when you get down to it) are interviewed alongside evolutionary biologists; stating facts has become ?partisan?.

The American right, not content with fucking up their own children and cheating them of an education, are exporting their tactics around the world. Be worried.

Dish has been tranquil about facing a longer FCC review period for its planned LTE-based 4G network, and now we might have an idea as to why. The satellite TV giant is telling the FCC that it only expects coverage to reach up to 60 million potential customers "within four years," or about 2016 -- six years after MetroPCS and Verizon first flicked their respective 4G switches. This is also assuming that the 3GPP cellular standards group clears the AWS-4 frequency band for LTE use. There's speculation that Dish is giving the extra time so that it can sell the spectrum later, but we'd take the safe road and assume Dish is serious. After all, AT&T wouldn't be trying to set tough conditions for Dish's LTE if it didn't think there was possibly significant competition on the way.

Nearly 1 in 2 Americans are Now Victims of This Heartless ...

By Dr. Mercola

As most of you know, the conventional medical system tends to equate ?health? with the absence of symptoms of disease. The entire industry is built around treating symptoms with expensive patented drugs, many of which are profoundly toxic and dangerous.

Pharmaceutical companies now rule the entire healthcare system, and they go to great lengths to protect their profits, even if it means sacrificing patients? health in the long run.

A recent story from the United Kingdom illustrates how far drug companies will go to make sure their expensive drugs are used when cheaper ones are available, and how medical facilities completely ignore more obvious cost-saving and safe solutions.

In London, in a legal maneuver intended to eliminate their competition, drug maker Novartis is now trying to force state-run hospitals to use their eye drug, which costs nearly 12 times as much as a cheaper drug the hospitals are currently using.

Novartis? drug, Lucentis, is the only one recommended for treatment of macular degeneration in Great Britain. But in an effort to save money, hospitals have been using the cancer drug Avastin instead, even though it?s an off-label use that its manufacturer, Roche, says it hasn?t even studied. (Avastin was recently recalled by the U.S. FDA because of its dangerous side effects, which include heart attacks.)

Novartis is now demanding a judicial review, to make the hospitals comply with the standard recommendation to use their drug and stop using Avastin off-label to treat this eye disease. Needless to say, using a dangerous cancer drug off-label to treat macular degeneration is far from an ideal solution, even though it?s 12 times cheaper than the other drug alternative?

If they really wanted to save money and spare people?s eyesight, they?d start paying closer attention to the research into astaxanthin. Studies have shown this safe and natural supplement is therapeutic for macular degeneration, and it?s a product anyone can take without running the risk of potentially devastating side effects. Astaxanthin may in fact be one of the most powerful nutrients ever discovered for eye health, and it costs pennies on the dollar compared to either Lucentis or Avastin.

Research Supports Astaxanthin for Macular Degeneration

While the off-label use of Avastin for macular degeneration is said to be based on a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine last year, which showed Avastin worked just as well as Lucentis for treating macular degeneration, numerous studies exist demonstrating the treatment potential of astaxanthin for this eye disorder. For example, one 2008 study, published in the journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, concluded thati:

?Astaxanthin treatment, together with inflammatory processes including NF-kB activation, subsequent upregulation of inflammatory molecules, and macrophage infiltration, led to significant suppression of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) development. The present study suggests the possibility of astaxanthin supplementation as a therapeutic strategy to suppress CNV associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).?

For more information, please see this previous article that describes how astaxanthin can help protect your eyesight.

Hospitals Seeing More Babies Born Addicted to Prescription Drugs

Conventional medicine is more than a little fond of using costly, toxic drugs. Unfortunately, this ?health? strategy exacts a tremendously high price, both in terms of dollars and cents and in actual health status. I?ve written a lot about the many side effects of most drug categories on the market, but one aspect that doesn?t get much publicity is the generational impact of pharmaceutical drug use.

In one of the most startling news reports yet on the overuse of opioid drugs like Oxycontin in America, a new study found that newborns suffering from withdrawal symptoms due to their mothers? use of prescription painkillers tripled between 2000 and 2009.

An estimated 13,500 babies are now born with opioid withdrawal symptoms each year. Over the same time period the number of women using these drugs quintupled. Health-care costs to treat these drug addicted babies rose from $190 million to a whopping $720 million.

?This serves as a reminder that this is really a public health emergency,? lead author Dr. Stephen Patrick of the University of Michigan told JAMA Reportii.

The study also found that the withdrawal problems appear to affect poor children disproportionately: 78 percent of the drug-addicted babies were born to mothers on Medicaid (an indication of poverty level), compared to 46 percent born to mothers receiving no public aid.

According to Time Magazineiii:

?Prescription drug misuse has risen in tandem with a sharp increase in legitimate prescriptions for pain medication, owing to a better recognition of the high prevalence of severe chronic pain. Both trends are likely to have affected painkiller use by pregnant women, but it is difficult to say exactly how many women use the drugs legitimately and how many do so without a prescription.?

Either way, it?s interesting to note that while there was great outcry over the horrors of ?crack babies? being born to mothers abusing crack-cocaine, the response to legal drug addiction in newborn babies is far more muted. Take the comment of Carl Hart, associate professor of psychology at Columbia University, for example, who is quoted in the featured Time articles as saying:

?[The research] failed to take into account that there are many women who are prescribed opioids for medical reasons and these women are following their physicians? orders and behaving in the way that society wants them to behave. There?s no distinction made between these women and those who are using opioids illicitly.?

My question is: Does it really make a difference? Whether you?re following doctor?s ?orders? and ?behaving the way society wants you to behave? by dutifully taking your drugs or not, the harm inflicted is real?and it?s caused by overuse of prescription drugs.

The Rise of Polypharmacy

Another factor of our current drug use trend that is frequently ignored is the impact of polypharmacy, i.e. the use of multiple drugs. For example, people with chronic pain or depression will oftentimes take more than one drug to ease their daily suffering. This exponentially increases your risk of side effects, but many still ignore this obvious fact. This holds true for ALL drugs, of course, not just pain medications and antidepressants.

There?s no doubt that the U.S. has been purposely manipulated into becoming a ?polypharmacy nation.? In just one decade, from 1992 to 2002, the number of prescriptions written increased by a whopping 61 percent, and the number of opiate prescriptions increased by almost 400 percent in that same timeframe.

It doesn?t have to be this way. My 83 year old father and 77 year old mother do not take ANY drugs. Whenever they have to go for a conventional medical visit, their providers are always shocked at this fact, as it?s in stark contrast to the vast majority of the rest of the population.

According to statistics from the Kaiser Health Foundationiv, the average American adult, aged 19 to 64, now takes more than 11 prescription drugs. So while polypharmacy used to be primarily a concern for seniors?who, on average fill more than 31 prescriptions per year?polypharmacy now applies to virtually everyone, including children and toddlers, whose drug use now averages out to four or more drugs per child!

This is a very significant problem that is not getting much attention. I?ve also heard many stories of concerned patients bringing it up with their doctors, only to be rebuffed. Still, it?s essential to understand that when you mix two or more drugs together, you exponentially increase your chances of suffering serious side effects. But just how did we get to the point where the average American is taking nearly a dozen pharmaceutical drugs daily?

Big Pharma Wants You Hooked on Drugs for Life

A major factor is the fact that the U.S. allows direct-to-consumer advertising for drugs. Most other nations do not allow pharmaceutical advertising, and their population consequently also does not consume nearly as many drugs. Advertising works?that?s a fact! There are two effective marketing strategies employed by drug companies on a regular basis, and they include:

  1. Convincing you that drugs you used to take only when you needed them are now everyday ?prevention? necessities in the form of a prescription; and
  2. Selling you the idea that just being at risk for a chronic disease makes you someone who should be taking a drug for the disease.

The supreme success of these two strategies arises from the fact that YOU are the one who then demands it from your doctor. Furthermore, the treatment goal of most of the drugs advertised is to keep taking them for life. After all, if you?re at risk for a chronic disease, that risk never goes away, so you have to keep taking the drug until you die, or cannot afford it any longer.

In a recent article, Martha Rosenbergv lists six types of drugs that are ?marketed for perpetuity,? meaning they?re intended to be taken for life. This type of marketing has also been profoundly effective. According to statistics, 46 percent of all Americans take five or more prescriptions chronically (as opposed to ?as needed?).

Sadly most of these drugs come with potential side effects that can be far worse than your original symptom, and few of them have been definitively proven to actually provide any significant health benefits. In fact, some of these drugs have been found to worsen the very condition they?re meant to treat (such as antidepressants, statins, proton pump inhibitors, and asthma-control meds), and/or cause other serious diseases. For more information, please follow the hyperlinks provided:

The Incredible Cost of Polypharmacy and Perpetual Drug Use

Four years ago, an analysis of federal data by the nonprofit Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) discovered that in the first quarter of 2008, fatalities from adverse drug reactions accounted for 23 percent of all adverse reaction reports!vi

It?s quite likely that this could be due to the exponential increase in polypharmacy. And it should serve as a wakeup call for everyone. We?re not talking about headaches and nausea anymore?we?re talking about death being reported as the side effect in nearly one out of every four cases?

Excessive drug use is also extremely expensive. First, drugs cost the US health care system nearly one trillion dollars a year. But that?s not all. We also spend tens of billions of dollars to treat the side effects of those drugs! And despite all these ?magic pills,? the United States ranks 49th in the world for both male and female life expectancy, down from 24th in 1999.

From my point of view, the idea that ?more and better drugs? is the answer to our nation?s failing health is clearly misguided. This is also part and parcel of the point I wanted to make in the beginning of this article, which is: Why focus on trying to determine which toxic and expensive drug to use when there are safer, in many cases completely natural, alternatives available? No one has died yet from too many whole food supplements, but drugs taken as prescribed kill at least 106,000 people annually and more than two million people suffer serious side effects.

Isn?t it time for another approach? Like Taking Control of Your Health without drugs.

Decoding Labels: Green & Black's Organic Hot Chocolate | Food ...

Hot chocolate may be one of my all time favorite drinks. No Swiss Miss for me, thankyouverymuch. I?m talking real, authentic, organic cocoa mixed with a natural sweetener and real milk from grass-fed cows. Of course, that generally means I make my own. But sometimes, like you, I?m willing to pay for convenience.

I?ll buy a mix.

And if you?ve shopped for a quality mix before, you?ve probably picked up today?s yummy culprit: Green & Black?s Organic Hot Chocolate. That?s because it?s available just about everywhere (including Wal-Mart), and it?s certified Fair-Trade and Organic.

Here?s what the manufacturer claims:

?To make our hot chocolate, we blend our dark chocolate with raw cane sugar and cocoa powder pressed from the same cocoa beans as the chocolate to add extra intensity. When added to hot, fresh milk the result is a cocoa-rich chocolate drink with a creamy froth, a rounded flavor provided by the chocolate, and a balanced sweetness.?

Green & Black?s Organic Hot Chocolate: Ingredients

  • Organic Raw Cane Sugar,
  • Organic Fat-Reduced Cocoa Powder,
  • Organic Dark Chocolate Powder (which includes:
  • Organic Chocolate Liquor,
  • Organic Raw Cane Sugar,
  • Organic Cocoa Butter,
  • Soy Lecithin,
  • Organic Vanilla Extract)

Green & Black?s Organic Hot Chocolate: DECODED

First, let?s stick with the good news. This product is certified Fair-Trade. That means the third-world producers growing these cocoa beans are getting paid a living wage rather than being exploited. Whenever you buy cocoa or coffee, you?ll want to look for the Fair-Trade certification label.

And check out all those organic ingredients! These are GMO-free, and grown according to organic principles without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals.

So now for the hard-hitting bit of news. Notice that soy lecithin? It?s not certified organic. And, since roughly 91% of all soybeans planted in the U.S. are genetically-modified, this doesn?t bode well. Chances are, this is GMO-soy lecithin.

Of course, there?s a small chance that it isn?t. Perhaps the company claims something about GMO-ingredients on their website!

On both the UK and Canadian websites, Green & Black?s has this to say when asked if their products are free of genetically-modified (GM) ingredients:

Yes ? as all of our products are certified by the Soil Association, this ensures no genetically modified (GM) ingredients are used in their production.
(source)

But guess what?s on their U.S. website?

Nothing. No questions about GMOs, and no answers either. This, dear readers, is industrial food in action.

You see, in the U.S., Green & Black?s isn?t certified by the Soil Association, but by the USDA. And did you know that the USDA regulations allow wiggle room for genetically-modified ingredients? According to these rules, a product labeled ?organic? must contain at least 95% organic ingredients. If the product is labeled ?made with organic ingredients,? it must contain 70% organic ingredients. That means that when you see an ?organic? label on a package, there can easily be genetically-modified ingredients inside it so long as they don?t add up to more than 5% of the final product.

The only way to completely avoid GMOs is to purchase products that are labeled ?100% organic,? or from brands that are part of the Non-GMO Project.

I sent an email to Green & Black?s to find out if their U.S. product line contained GMOs, and they haven?t contacted me back.

Green & Black?s Organic Hot Chocolate: THE VERDICT

(At least until we hear directly from the company that their U.S. product line is also GMO-free.)

So, what should you use instead?

Of course, the best option is to make your own hot cocoa from organic, fair-trade cocoa powder and your natural sweetener of choice.

(Where to find cocoa & natural sweeteners.)

If you want a good store bought brand, I?ve enjoyed Native USA Organic Cocoa Mix before. It?s 100% organic, GMO-free, and sustainably produced.

Be Smart About Electronic Communications - Diagnostic Imaging

More and more, I hear about colleagues communicating via electronic media about patients. Almost daily, I am asked to communicate with referring physicians about their patients outside the normal report. That trend was confirmed when I read an article about PACS systems that allow SMS or other rapid digital communication beyond the typical PACS or RIS log in.

Certainly such efficiencies of communication are the wave of the future, even present. They will allow physicians to seamlessly share critical results and will reduce time spent tracking down other physicians or results. This means that tools for sharing information are very powerful for radiologists. In addition, as a profession predicated on a visual format, radiology lends itself to electronic media and sharing of information.

Beyond direct patient care, many professional friends share cases and to ask for opinions. But that kind of communication has its limitation and dangers. While recent articles talk about leveraging new tools for this, other publications have warned of abuses of the technology, either through inadvertent or inappropriate interactions.

Amongst the tools, social networking is one of the most powerful. Several sites intended just for physicians now exist and can be good places to share experiences. But any information shared there must be completely anonymous. Remember too, that you are still legally responsible for the content you post.

Beyond that, realize that there is not a way to verify that the persons using this are health professionals so be careful in trusting information you get there. That works both ways as what you share can be disseminated to and attributed to you. And lastly, realize anything you say can be used against you. Patients can see what you post or share too, so always be professional. That goes for all interactions in the electronic space.

A few more comments:

Try not to mix personal and professional anything ? blogs, social networking, cell phone, if at all possible. For example, if you have professional Facebook account for the office, keep the content for patients only. If patients try to contact you this way, refer them to your office and have them call or come in for advice. Avoid the temptation to have any personal contact with any patients. Keep it professional. Once you start a doctor-patient relationship in the office or even online, the relationship is that forever, so be careful.

Remember email is not secure unless accessed under a secure network, so sharing patient information is dangerous. That image of the interesting case that you sent out for your colleagues to give you an opinion has patient data on it. And the photo of your procedure from yesterday that you posted shows the patient?s face. That sort of problem is easy to miss ? and may cost you.

Texting may be even more problematic. You can?t validate who picks up the phone that the surgeon lays down in the OR, and SMS is not a secure medium. So if you don?t have a secure cell network, make sure you share this way very carefully. At a minimum verify that the receiver wants information this way and that it is private before you send it. And never add any editorial information.

The Handy Man's Blog: Thoughts on business accounting

Starting a business is fun and exciting, however it can be complicated and confusing too. Especially when it comes to accounting, many would think that a business is all about selling your goods and promoting your products. But without tracking your records, you won't find out if hurdles and blind side are coming your way, the worst, you might dive in towards bankruptcy. To avoid such pitfall, make sure your business has a good accounting system that keeps track of everything from the purchases you make, production, inventory, salary amounts, expenditures, and so on and so forth. Having been working in the tax office for many years, I get to meet a lot of confused clients. It feels good when we get to help them and clarify things with them.

Another helpful tool would have to be online accounting and bookkeeping software. It's main objective is to put together financial reports, inventory, purchasing orders and other financial functionality the easy way. It works good for small business purposes, those who just opened up a new shop or business. Although it is still best to go straight ahead and let the tax office do the job for you, it is also pretty much helpful to try out alternatives and the latest innovation in the field of account management. It pays to learn about everything in connection to your business. And when the tax season comes, you won't be having headaches and be sure of the benefits having a nice accounting system brings.

Good Riddance to the Five-Paragraph Essay? - Teaching Now ...

In his blog The White Rhino: A Chicago Latino English Teacher, Ray Salazar argues that the five-paragraph essay should be tossed out the window. The Chicago public school teacher writes that the "outdated writing tradition" is "rudimentary, unengaging, and useless," and that the format leads to the production of "low-level summary that nobody really cares about."

Effective cover letters and news articles don't follow the five-paragraph structure, he argues, so the organizational pattern will not lead to success outside of school.

Salazar also points out that the original essay structure, created by Aristotle, identified five parts that are critical to effective writing and speaking: introduction, background, confirmation, refutation, and conclusion. Over time, however, people began to implement these "parts" as separate paragraphs, resulting in "boring" and "predictable" writing, says Salazar.

He suggests that teachers go back to Aristotle's original structure for writing persuasive essays, because it allows students to incorporate "compare/contrast, cause/effect, definition, or analysis paragraphs as appropriate," as opposed to the five-paragraph essay that mostly forces them to write in expository paragraphs. He also writes that Aristotle's form should be coupled with the College Board's recommended format called SOAP (Subject, Occasion, Audience, Purpose), which helps students pinpoint the rhetorical context that they are writing for and provides a limitless structure for their writing.

An autoresponder is an automatic way to send email. It is also one of the most important business tools you will use if you want to make money building an Internet business. There are both free and paid autoresponders on the market today, but they are not created equally.

Building an email list is one of the best assets you can develop for your business. No matter what niche your business is in you can build a list and profit from it.

Email marketing allows you to make money with the click of a button. To do that you need a list of subscribers to contact, and you need an autoresponder to store the names and email addresses of your subscribers in.

Avoid Free Autoresponders

As with most things online you can use a free autoresponder. With these you do not pay a monthly fee, but you also lose a couple of key benefits.

1. Delivery rate. You want to go with a well known name autoresponder because you will have a higher delivery rate. There's no sense sending out emails if the maximum number of people do not get to read it because it ends up in their spam filter.

2. Paid ads. Most free autoresponders include advertising that is not for your products in your email messages. The way to make those messages go way is to use a paid autoresponder.

Aweber Is The Best

Aweber is easily the best autoresponder for a beginner on the market today. I like to look at what other people are doing in the marketplace and copy them whenever I can.

When I subscribe to somebody's email list the messages they deliver to make me come from Aweber. This is true for the really big Internet marketers as well as people who are just starting out.

I personally have been using Aweber since 2003 and been very happy with them. For $20 a month to get unbelievable features and benefits.

Aweber is easy to use. it Does Not take technical ability to set your autoresponder up. They provide easy to follow tutorials in video and text format that anyone can learn from. Setting up an email marketing campaign is easy with Aweber.

They have over 100 email templates you can choose from in html format. You can really customize them to help brand your business.

You will have excellent analytics so you can track what is working and what is not working when you send out email. You can quickly see how many new subscribers you get and lose each day and with each emil you send out.

These are jsut a handful of reasons I like Aweber. When you are first starting out it is the best autoresponder for a beginner.
